Business as Usual for Dudley Zoo Staff

Dudley Zoo may well be closed to the public today, but it’s business as usual for the keeping staff looking after the zoo’s collection of animals.

Staff will be putting their Christmas dinner plans on hold to make sure the 1,600-strong animal collection are fed and cared for.

The zoo’s exotic species woke to piles of presents this morning. The Brazilian tapirs found their stocking bursting with tasty treats, while the Asiatic lions and wild dogs got stuck into wrapped enrichment gifts doused in Christmas spices.

The zoo recently welcomed two new arrivals to their collection just in time for Christmas – a red-legged seriema and a Victoria crowned pigeon.
